Zardozi is a Persian embroidery technique meaning "gold sewing." The word combines "zar" (gold) and "dozi" (embroidery/sewing). Originating in 14th-century Persia, this art form reached its highest expression under the Mughal Empire, where artisans used real gold wire, silver thread, pearls, and precious stones on silk and velvet fabrics to create garments for royalty. The tradition is still practiced today by master craftsmen in Lucknow, India.
