The Meaning of Zardozi
From Persian gold to a Queens boutique — a name that carries centuries of craftsmanship, and a vision to honor it.
Zar+Dozi
زر
Persian · Noun
Zar — Gold
The word for gold in Persian — the metal of royalty, divinity, and enduring beauty. The element that has adorned brides since the age of Mughal emperors.
دوزی
Persian · Noun
Dozi — Embroidery
The art of sewing — specifically the intricate needlework tradition that transformed plain silk into masterpieces. Every stitch a moment of devotion.

A Craft Born in Persia,
Perfected in India
Zardozi embroidery originated in 14th-century Persia, where artisans developed the technique of sewing with real gold wire to create garments of extraordinary beauty for the nobility.
When Persian craftsmen came to India, the art found its highest expression under the Mughal Empire. Emperor Akbar established royal workshops where hundreds of artisans created garments for the imperial court using real gold wire, silver thread, pearls, and precious stones.
Today, the tradition lives in the hands of master craftsmen in Lucknow, who carry forward six centuries of unbroken knowledge. When you wear a Zardozi piece, you wear history.
Why Zardozi Exists
Zardozi was born from a simple observation: no bridal boutique in Jackson Heights — one of the most important South Asian cultural corridors in America — was treating brides the way they deserved to be treated.
Crowded showrooms. Pressure tactics. Walk-in foot traffic competing with brides who had dreamed of this moment their entire lives. We saw a gap between the quality of the garments being sold and the quality of the experience being offered.
Zardozi is our answer. A boutique — not a store. A gallery — not a warehouse. A private consultation — not a crowded floor. We curated collections from the designers who define South Asian couture, then built an experience worthy of those garments.
“We don't sell dresses. We craft the experience of becoming a bride. By private appointment only.”
We are located at 3726 74th Street, Store 3, in the heart of Jackson Heights. We serve Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Guyanese, and all South Asian diaspora communities.
The Zardozi Difference
Four principles that define everything we do.
Heritage
Named after the 14th-century Persian embroidery tradition. Every interaction carries the weight of centuries of craftsmanship.
Exclusivity
Private appointments only. No walk-in browsing. Scarcity, elevated perceived value, and undivided attention for every bride.
Curation
We carry Sabyasachi, Rohit Bal, Ritu Kumar, and Anamika Khanna. The boutique is a gallery, not a warehouse.
Luminosity
Our ivory-and-gold identity symbolizes the bride's radiance — a deliberate departure from the dark aesthetic common in Jackson Heights.
